Mother and Daughter Portraits

Thank you for considering your classically styled Mother and Daughter Portrait shoot with Boudoir Fusion Photography in association with Brushstrokes Make Up Artistry and Posing By Tracey Lee Selby.

With this team you are in fantastic hands to create timeless images to proudly be displayed within your home. This wall art will also make the perfect gift for the grandparents.  Mothers and daughters have a very special bond.  The moments shared between a mother and her precious daughter are fleeting and changing as you both mature, with that bond often growing deeper.  You will want to remember these moments in your life forever, one of our shoots will help you do just that.

Styling your Mother Daughter shoot

Colour and stylingMatch but Don’t Coordinate

Deciding what to wear in Family Pictures can be a daunting task. What colors to wear? How can we coordinate, but not be “matchy”?

We recommend that you start out with a basic colour palette and then go from there. Consider neutral and a few colourful brings, but if you are going for the classic look, try a softer palette that has different tonal ranges of the same shades.

You can decide on the look that you would like to achieve for this shoot;  be it a classic almost vintage look with long flowing dresses or an ethnic traditional look the choice is yours.

Props

Although not necessary for the type of images we are trying to create, if you are going to bring a prop, make sure it is going to fit the vibe of the session, try to keep them meaningful and simple.  A few prop examples would be flowers that are neutral in colour and coordinate with your clothing, a basket of apples or a vintage camera, how about a stuffed animal? Your key goal is to ensure the prop that is brought in makes sense.

Shoes

Your shoes matter, we would not recommend ‘takkies; unless it was a funky urban style you were going for. Look at distressed boots, ballet flats, anything that will tie everything together for the feel of the session.  Sometimes no shoes may actually look great.

Mother and Daughter PhotoshootHow are you going to display your new art?

Firstly think about your main goal for the shoot, if it were for a Christmas card, you would possibly want something that looks warm and wintry, I know this sounds crazy for South Africa, but it is often something we expect.  If it is for a canvas that is going to be hung in the living room, then coordinate similar complementary colours.

We recommend that you start out with a basic colour palette and then go from there. Consider neutral and a few colourful brings, but if you are going for the classic look, try a softer palette that has different tonal ranges of the same shades.

Textures and Layers

These can be used to create and interest in the image.  These are also great when using a colour palette that is on the soft or neutral side.  This can be achieved by using different clothing materials and accents, such as hand knit items, ribbons, embroidery detail, lace etc.  Having different layers and accessories can add another dimension to the overall texture of the image.

Quick tips

  • Decide on a colour scheme
  • Select one focal piece of clothing
  • Avoid Logos, graphics, characters, labels etc, you do not want to distract from the image of for you image to look like it is a brand commercial.
  • Lay it all out on the floor and match the items.
  • The same colour, this is dated and boring.
  • Plan your wardrobe in advance, probably when you book the shoot.
  • Rather bring more items than less.
